STORY
La Serena Villas was originally established in 1933 and closed for demolition in 2002. The community came together and saved it from the wrecking ball after receiving Historic Status.
Originally built in 1933, this Historic Hotel sits on over an acre of beautiful landscaped grounds in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, walking distance to the famous Palm Canyon Drive, where you will find the best restaurants, boutiques and galleries.
Redeveloped as a luxury hotel in 2016 by award winning architect, May Sung, with all the modern amenities of a 5 star hotel. Each piece of furniture, all materials and finishes have been carefully hand picked by interior design group, Avenue Interior Design.
The stunning San Jacinto Mountains are the backdrop for this luxury boutique hotel. The secluded private villas each have a private patio, complete with a romantic claw foot tub, fire-pit, and built in benches.
Our 18 guest rooms, spa, restaurant, bar, and rooftop lounge are all designed to create your ultimate Palm Springs getaway.
“The original La Serena Villas consisted of eleven 1930s cottages built in the Spanish eclectic style popular at the time. It was listed as a Class 1 Historical Property by the City of Palm Springs.
We started the project with the intention to create intimacy and privacy with courtyards and meandering paths filled with romance and intrigue, as if you were wondering through an old Spanish town. We brought back the details influenced by George Washington Smith, and imbued the existing structures with modern amenities. In addition, we added three new structures that houses a new reception/retail area, a restaurant building with roof deck overlooking the Palm Springs Mountains, and a quiet pool with private massage pavilion.
The hotel was recognized by the City of Palm Springs for the creative reconstruction of La Serena Villas.”
